6月23日至6月24日，由中國人民大學法學院、香港城市大學法學院和中國人民大學國際學院（蘇州研究院）共同主辦的“2012中美法學院院長論壇——紀念CLEEC項目三十周年”在中國人民大學國際學院（蘇州研究院）圓滿召開。來自中美兩國近六十所知名法學院校的院長、學者共聚一堂，回顧、分享了中美法學教育交流的歷史與成果，探索新環境、新形勢下中美法學教育交流的新方式、新方法，為兩國法科學生與教師提供更多的交流機會，推動法學教育的發展。
本次論壇恰逢中美法學教育界第一個正式交流項目CLEEC（中美法學教育交流委員會，Committee for Legal Education Exchange with China）創立實施三十周年。該項目先后資助了兩百余位中國法學界和法學教育界的學者赴美交流和深造。本次研討會也邀請了中美兩國參與過兩國交流項目的著名法學家和法學教育家與會，全面、系統地總結兩國法學教育交流合作的豐碩成果和成功經驗。
在6月23日上午的開幕式上，吉林省高級人民法院院長、教育部高校法學學科教學指導委員會主任委員、中國法學教育研究會會長張文顯教授，中國人民大學黨委副書記兼副校長王利明教授，香港城市大學法學院院長王貴國教授，美方嘉賓代表杜克大學法學院院長David F. Levi教授和中國人民大學法學院院長韓大元教授先后致辭。幾位致辭嘉賓認為，在中美法學教育交流計劃啟動三十周年之際，中美兩國法學院院長共聚一堂，具有非常重大的意義。本次論壇將是我們回顧和分享中國改革開放之初兩國法學教育的交流與合作的平臺，并將進一步深入地推進中美兩國法學教育的交流、法治建設的交流和其他方面的交流與合作，將進一步推進中國法學教育、中國法律人才培養的國際化。
隨后，研討會分五個單元進行，分別是：“回顧與共享（一）：中美法學教育”、“回顧與共享（二）：CLEEC與中美法學教育交流”、“全球化與中美法學教育交流”、“學生參與中美法學教育交流”和“國際卓越人才培養計劃與中美法學教育交流”五個話題展開深入交流與探討。中美法學院院長、知名教授分別在五個單元中作主題發言，回顧歷史、立足當下、展望未來，分享了法學教育交流的經驗與成果，對未來雙方的合作與交流提出了有益建議。
在6月24日上午的閉幕式上，美國法學院協會會長、印第安納大學（伯明頓分校）常務副校長Lauren Kay Robel教授，吉林省高級人民法院院長、教育部高校法學學科教學指導委員會主任委員、中國法學教育研究會會長張文顯教授和中國人民大學法學院的朱景文教授對本次論壇發表總結性發言。Lauren Kay Robel教授總結了本次論壇的情況，并就中美雙方可以展開合作的機制與方式發表觀點。張文顯教授指出，法學教育首先是一種公民教育，無論法律人從事的是哪個領域的法律工作，都是一種公共服務，如果沒有公民的立場，公共服務的質量就會受到扭曲。最后，主持人王振民教授就新時期法科學生培養理念等問題進行了總結發言。
中美雙方與會代表紛紛表示，本次論壇將成為中美法學教育交流開啟新紀元的契機，中美兩國的法學教育必將借此契機增進交流，加深友誼，共同進步！
